Social Security Disability
Social Security Disability Lawyers
Social Security Disability (SSD) is a federal disability program for injured or sick workers who, because of their medical/mental conditions or disabilities, are unable to maintain substantial and gainful activity. A person’s disability under the Social Security Disability system does not have to be the result of a work injury. The disability can be the result of any medical condition(s), injury(ies), or a combination of both, which contribute to your inability to work.
The Social Security Administration will consider awarding benefits to you if you can show –
- That you have been disabled for twelve consecutive months, or
- Provide medical evidence that documents the fact that your disability will extend beyond one year
Once a claimant becomes unable to work, it is important to immediately begin obtaining the necessary medical documentation of disability. Should the prognosis for disability be long term, then filing a Social Security Disability claim is necessary.
